Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) is the branch campus of Weill Cornell Medicine, the medical school of Cornell University, located within Education City in Doha. Established in 2001 as the first co-educational institution of higher learning in Qatar, WCM-Q offers a comprehensive pre-medical programme and a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. It is the only medical school in Qatar that grants an American-accredited medical degree, positioning it as a cornerstone of the country’s healthcare human development strategy.

Academic Programmes

WCM-Q operates a six-year integrated medical curriculum comprising a two-year pre-medical programme followed by a four-year medical programme leading to the MD degree. The pre-medical programme provides foundational instruction in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and the liberal arts, preparing students for the rigorous medical curriculum that follows.

The medical programme mirrors the curriculum delivered at Weill Cornell Medicine in New York City, covering the basic medical sciences in the pre-clinical years and transitioning to clinical rotations and clerkships in the clinical years. Students receive training in anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, and the clinical disciplines including internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and psychiatry.

The MD degree conferred by WCM-Q is identical to that awarded in New York and is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME), the accrediting body for MD programmes in the United States and Canada. This accreditation enables WCM-Q graduates to pursue residency training in the United States and internationally.

Clinical Partnerships

WCM-Q’s clinical training programme is delivered through partnerships with Qatar’s major healthcare institutions. Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), the principal public healthcare provider in Qatar, serves as the primary clinical training site, providing access to a high-volume, multi-specialty hospital system with facilities across Doha.

Sidra Medicine, the women’s and children’s hospital founded by Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, serves as an additional clinical training partner, particularly for paediatric and maternal health rotations. The collaboration between WCM-Q, HMC, and Sidra Medicine creates a clinical training environment that exposes students to a broad spectrum of medical conditions and practice settings.
